New Homes + Green Building = Saving Money

Building new homes with the latest in green building techniques and equipping it with energy star appliances will save on utility bills. In addiction, many of the improved construction methods and products can add to a Healthy Living Home.

Heating and cooling units should have ratings of at least Plus 90 with furnaces and 15 Steer with cooling unit. If you really want to get a head of the curve and you can afford the investment, the use radiant heat and geothermal energy can reduce energy costs up to 50%.

Good new construction practice such as caulking, sealing, and foaming gaps and cracks between the inside and outside are key to real energy savings. Insulating the new home and creating a seal (or envelope) will also reduce energy costs.

Buying smart appliances is another way to save money on your utilities bills. Energy Star rated appliances have been proven to  save money over time and sometimes even qualify for rebates and tax credits.

Outside the new home, greener landscaping choices including strategic shade tree plantings, less lawn area, and the use of grey water from the new home can substantially reduce the amount of water consumed and conserve energy.

The bottom line with buying a new home that was built with environmentally friendly practices is this: you save money while helping save the planet.
