Old King Salomon was a pretty smart guy. He understood that greatness lay in the small details. But , one thing you must learn is that those small details don’t have to cost you big money. With new construction home, all you have to do is be a little creative and think out of the box.

Today’s tip is about adding additional trim. It is the additional detail that will make you home will help make your home great. So here we go

TRICKED OUT TRIM
If you've written off using some handsome millwork (Finish trim) as a luxury only item and that it is only reserved for higher priced homes. You may be cheating yourself?

Wainscoting paneling is usual only used in the very upper end homes. But here is a trick you can use to get you that wainscot look, with out the big cost.

  • Use 1-foot-by-4-foot strips to add dimension to plain walls, but the expanses between those stiles and rails are drywall, not plywood.
  • Paint the part of the drywall with the same oil-based gloss paint as the wood trim, so it looks like wood paneling, It doesn't matter whether the chair rail begins 2 feet or 6 feet up from the floor; you still use virtually the same amount of trim.
  • As a finish, the horizontal rail is topped off with a strip of poplar bed molding.

Another idea to achieve and or simulates a bead board look is by scoring a sheet of birch plywood with a router and then painting it with the same gloss paint—at a third of the cost of real tongue-and-groove bead board.

There are many more inexpensive tricks that you can use that will give your new home the detail it needs to become a great home. Remember, greatness in is the details. It is those small details that will make the difference. Most new homes in Birmingham Michigan will have those small details. So don’t forget them. Good luck with your search of that new home. I hope this article will help you.
